ESPIAL - Final Animation Draft

I have now put together all my renders and created a soundscape for my final animation. I think some of the sound effects need to be toned down in some areas as I feel they drown out the voiceover. There is a screenshot below of the soundscape in Audition (listen with headphones to get full effect). Any feedback welcome.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               ESPIAL - Final Animation Draft from Will Huntley on Vimeo.

Major Project: Making of Start

Due to recently starting to render my animation I haven't had a lot to post on my blog. However whilst the rendering has been in process I have made a start at creating the Making Of for my project. I have decided to make a Manual/Handbook for the space station that the occupant has annotated and graffiti-ed on. Below are a few sections that I have put together so far.

Major Project: Espial Pre-Viz with Voiceover

Since my first draft pre-viz I have managed to fix the issue of the glitches when transferring from each section. I have also added in some more personal objects to make the environment seem more lived-in. There are few floating objects that need editing as they haven't been animated in the right place for when the camera passes by. Also the tape effect on the voiceover needs more work to get rid of the clicking sounds. There are now hand-prints and smudges on the glass at 2:05, they don't show in the pre-viz but can be seen in the test render below.

Major Project: Lighting Alterations

Due to catching a virus and an ear infection I haven't been able to get as much completed on my project as I had hoped in the past days but I have been able to make some alterations to the lighting in order to create better atmospheres.

Major Project: Prev-Viz Test

I've made a start at animating, although there are a lot of things that need smoothing and editing the main focus was to test out transferring from each section without an obvious seem in the animation. The changes come at 1:04 and 2:28. There is a noticeable change in speed from the transfers but this can be fixed with enough editing.

Major Project: All Sections Update

I've gone back through each section and added in the miscellaneous objects and also altered some of the textures, modelling and lighting. I still need to get some family photos and also create some varied textures for the computer screens. The emitters I've created also need a bit of work.

Major Project: Updated Tape Player

I have now updated the tape player for my animation as the old one was far too basic and didn't really look like a realistic tape player.

Major Project: Section 3 Updated Textures

I have now added some mad ramblings and scribbles on the walls of the final section of the ship. I've also been editing the lighting in some areas. My next step is to add some emitters for steam coming out of broken pipes and sparks from split wires.

Major Project: Miscellaneous Objects

I've made a few random objects that I can dot around the space station to make the environment feel a bit more lived-in. I need to gather some different photos as well, such as family photos and occasions to show the occupant had been thinking about being back home.

Major Project: Poster and Title

I decided to take a break from Maya tonight and work on the graphic side of my project. Here is the title of my project 'Espial' and a quick poster design. The red letter 'I' in the title is supposed to represent a tally mark which relates to the tally of days spent in space and away from home the occupant of the ship has scribbled on the walls. The smiley face is the same smiley face used on the puppets the occupant has made in the ship.

Major Project: Puppet

I have made the weird puppets that have been made by the occupant of the ship to keep him company. I'm not sure about the main torso as it looks like it's a big rock instead of something made out of fabric.

Major Project: Interior Section 3 Modelling & UV Mapping Start

This is my progress so far for the third and final section of the ship. The modelling needs a bit more refining and some of the geometry hasn't been properly UV mapped yet.

Major Project: Interior Section 2 Update

This is just a quick update on my progress for the second section of the station. At the moment I'm still painting a few more remaining textures and have just applied some temporary ones in order to see what areas need refining and what needs more detail. I think the area that needs most work in this section is the shown in the last image of this post. I also need to do a bit more modelling for this section and work on the lighting.
